Am I going to fail this module? 

I had spent the entire winter break studying and still couldn’t figure out some theories, there were still so many things to grasp for the upcoming exam. Our modules are so complicated, it takes so much time to understand the concepts, and there are limited useful resources online as they are so niche. To save time for studies and  internship applications, I stopped hanging out with friends, stopped joining socials, and even limited my break time. To make things worse, my family are far away and they couldn’t understand my struggles. I started slowly speaking less, spending nights sobbing alone, and lost the energy and courage to keep going. The measures of “saving time” had successfully led to burnout and isolation.

What was the root cause of my struggles? Peer pressure? High expectations? Poor time management?Or was I just not smart enough?

Upon reflection, I found my answer:

A complex, niche modules -> limited online resources-> excessive time spent understanding concepts -> less time for exam prep and job applications -> overwhelming stress.

Solution:
The reality is, a challenging syllabus defines a university’s standard, and the competitive job market is a marathon, not a sprint. The solution wasn’t to work harder, but to study smarter. I reached out to seniors who generously shared their notes and solutions —— concise, well-structured, and packed with their thought process in tackling advanced theories. These resources transformed my understanding, gave me more time preparing my exams, and most importantly, took away my anxiety. With clarity and confidence, I was able to strive academically, reconnected with friends, and advanced in my career. 

Now, it’s my turn to give back.
